How Smriti uses AI
AI helps Smriti transcribe, search, translate, summarise and answer. Anything AI wrote carries this chip: AI Tap it on any page to come back here.
What AI does here
-
Bulletin transcripts
Speech recognition turns All India Radio bulletins into text in their own language and script.
Machine transcripts are not checked by a person unless the item says so. Listen to the audio to verify a quote.
-
Ask answers
AI answers questions from the archive's own bulletins and articles.
Each claim cites the items it comes from. When the archive has no source, the answer says so instead of guessing.
-
Smriti write-ups
AI writes short original articles from the facts that several sources agree on.
Every sentence is cited and checked against its sources; long runs of a publisher's wording and long quotes are refused.
-
Understand this
AI writes a brief with background for an item or story, and answers follow-up questions.
Each point cites the sources below it; quotes are copied exactly from them.
-
Story titles and comparisons
AI groups coverage of the same news, writes the story title, and compares what each source said.
Comparisons never decide who is right: a disagreement lists each side with its sources.
-
Timeline and storyline summaries
AI writes the one-line summaries of what changed at each step of a timeline or storyline.
Each line rests on dated, cited items; quotes are the sources' own words.
-
Translations and summaries
AI translates headlines, summaries and Smriti's own text into Indian languages.
Quotes stay in their original language with a translation beside them. The original is always one tap away.
-
Photos that follow a bulletin
AI picks openly licensed photos (with credit) that match the places and people a bulletin talks about.
Photos illustrate; they are not pictures of the reported event unless the caption says so.
-
Read aloud and voice
A synthetic voice reads text aloud, and speech recognition hears spoken questions.
The voice is always an AI voice, never a copy of a real person's voice.
-
Samvaad
AI conversations with historical figures, grounded in their published writings.
Answers quote only passages that exist, with the edition. They are a simulation, not the person's words.
How facts are checked
- AI works only from items in the archive (and, where shown, Wikipedia background). It is told to say so when the archive has no source.
- Each AI sentence cites the items it rests on. Citations open the original bulletin, article or page.
- Quotes are copied exactly and checked against the source text. A quote that cannot be found in its source is removed.
- Quotes from news publishers are kept short, and AI never rewrites a whole article.
- When sources disagree, Smriti shows each side with its sources and does not pick a winner.
Limits
- Machine transcripts mishear names, numbers and places, especially in noisy or fast speech. Listen to the audio before relying on a quote.
- AI can misread a source or join two facts that do not belong together. Check the cited original before you rely on an answer, and treat nothing here as legal, medical or financial advice.
- Translations by AI can lose nuance. The original is always one tap away.
- Photos chosen by AI illustrate places and people; they are not pictures of the reported event unless the caption says so.
- Synthetic voices and Samvaad conversations are clearly AI. They never imitate a real person's voice.
Content protection
Everything on Smriti is for viewing and listening on this website only. Nothing can be downloaded, and you may not copy, scrape, save, republish or redistribute bulletins, transcripts, articles, AI-written text or photos, or use them to train AI.
Automated access is not allowed. Only general search engines may index Smriti's pages, and without snippets, cached copies or image indexing; AI crawlers and scrapers are blocked.
To quote or reuse something, go to its original source: every item links to it.
